A series of drawn and graphic illustrations exploring the relationship between man and God, this collection is centred around a modern calligraphic representation of the Quranic verse “There is no god but God”.
I sketched the first calligraphic elements in 2010, only to leave them untouched for many years. I then produced some drawings and paintings in which I incorporated the elements, but found myself unable to reflect the starkness and vibrancy of the message in my mind with brushstrokes.
Inspired by a series of Arab pop artists producing bold and imaginative graphic posters that incorporate both “western” imagery and Arab icons, I decided to focus for the time being on producing computer generated graphics. I do however really enjoy a good painting session, so don’t rule more of that out either.
